This is a focused one-day retreat—not a vacation. It’s an intentional break from daily life so you can deeply invest in your relationship before your wedding. Throughout the day, you’ll be invited to engage intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually as you prepare for a lifelong marriage.
You’ll hear practical and faith-based presentations on key marriage topics, each followed by personal reflection and private conversation with your fiancé. You’ll be seated together at your own table, so there’s no expectation for group sharing or public discussion. The pace is steady but comfortable, with brief breaks and lunch provided throughout the day.
-
The retreat is led by Catalyst Catholic staff and experienced couples from the New Albany Deanery, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
-
Couples do not need to be from the New Albany Deanery. While most attendees are from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, anyone preparing for a Catholic marriage is welcome.
-
No, both spouses do not need to be Catholic. While everything is presented from a Roman Catholic perspective, all faith traditions are welcome and there is no attempt to convert you or your fiancé.
-
The cost is $125 per couple, which includes all materials, continental breakfast, and lunch. Payment is made via credit/debit card during registration. If you need another payment option, contact our office.
-
While Catalyst currently only offers one workshop each year, the Archdiocese of Indianapolis hosts additional opportunities for engaged couples around the diocese – find them here.
-
Yes. Participating in this retreat fulfills the marriage preparation requirement from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis to attend a retreat or workshop. If you are from another diocese, please check with the responsible party at your parish or diocese.
Following the workshop, we will send a certificate of completion to the priest or deacon officiating your wedding to confirm you have met this requirement.
-
Not much is needed! We’ll have all the materials you need for the day. Dress comfortably and in layers in case the room gets hot or cold. If you’d like, a reusable water bottle and coffee mug would make the Franciscans happy.
