Over 15,000 young people will gather for the National Catholic Youth Conference—and you can be part of it! Volunteers help create a safe, joyful, and faith-filled experience for teens from across the country.

This year, the New Albany Deanery is in charge of the Service Area in the Interactive Exhibit Hall, located in the Indianapolis Convention Center (100 S. Capitol Ave / Indianapolis, IN).

Together, we’ll partner with four local organizations to demonstrate the Works of Mercy.

Join St. Vincent de Paul Indy for a powerful Food Insecurity Simulation—an interactive, role-playing experience that helps participants step into the shoes of individuals and families who struggle with consistent access to nutritious, affordable food. Volunteers guide the youth through the exhibit and engage them with prepared discussion questions.

Weaving God’s Blessings provides a two-for-one service opportunity! Care for the environment while helping our homeless neighbors in need by providing a source of comfort and dignity. With guidance from parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, youth and volunteers will turn donated plastic bags into waterproof sleeping mats. Volunteers will assist youth in the cutting and weaving process.

Our neighbor does not always live right next door. Join Hearts In Motion in serving those in need across South and Central America. By preparing bags made of recycled tshirts, you’ll help lighten the load for those who bring healing and hope to communities around the globe. Volunteers assist youth in cutting and tying t-shirts into bags.

As our climate changes, everyone—including those who are unhoused—faces greater need during natural disasters. Join Catholic Climate Covenant in making a difference by assembling easy-to-carry disaster relief kits that provide comfort and necessities when they’re needed most. Volunteers guide the youth through the exhibit, assist with packing kits, and engage them with prepared discussion questions.

FAQs

We want your volunteer experience to be safe and enjoyable!
Here are answers to some commonly asked questions:

  • NCYC will take place November 20–22, 2025. All service activities will take place in the Interactive Exhibit Hall at the Indianapolis Convention Center (100 S. Capitol Ave, Indianapolis, IN).

  • We love our volunteers! If you are ready to join us, click here.

You’ll fill out two forms (one for Catalyst, one for NCYC).

Once NCYC processes your application, you’ll have the option to sign up for shifts in their portal. You may skip this step, as we are able to enter the information for you.

    Shift options include:

    • Thursday, 11/20 – 1-4:00pm, 4-6:30pm

    • Friday, 11/21 – 10:30am-1pm, 1-3:30pm, 3:30-6pm

    • Saturday, 11/22 – 10:30am-1pm, 1-3:30pm, 3:30-6pm, 6-8pm (clean up crew)

We know the process can feel overwhelming, but don’t worry—we’re here to help! If you get stuck at any point, just reach out to Michelle at michelle@catalystcatholic.org or call 812-923-8355.

  • All NCYC volunteers are required to complete the Safe Parish training and complete a background check before credentials will be issued and participation in the conference is confirmed. A step by step guide to completing this requirement can be found here.

Safe Parish is designed to raise awareness of child abuse, neglect, and emotional abuse, and to provide clear guidance on how to report concerns.

The training is available online, in both English and Spanish, 24/7. It can be completed in about an hour.

  • One of the best perks of volunteering is the free credential you’ll receive! This pass gives you access to all NCYC speakers, musicians, and activities during your breaks. For the most up-to-date schedule of events, visit the NCYC website.

  • Credentials are required for entry into the Indianapolis Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium during NCYC.
Please note that credentials will not be issued the week of the event, as all volunteers must be fully vetted and scheduled in advance.

Once your participation is confirmed, you’ll receive a confirmation email. All volunteers may pick up their credentials at the start of their first shift using the doors at the corner of Maryland and Capitol Streets.

Plan to arrive no less than 30 minutes early to allow time for lines or corrections. Please remember to bring a photo ID.

  • Yes. All volunteers must register with Catalyst Catholic by November 11, 2025 in order to participate in the service exhibit. For safety and planning purposes, we cannot accept walk-in volunteers during NCYC.

  • Volunteers greet participants as they enter the service area, helping set a warm, faith-filled tone for the experience. As we guide youth through the stations, volunteers will be asked to share brief instructions and engage youth with short, thoughtful questions about Catholic social teaching, care for creation, and the dignity of those who struggle—helping teens connect service with discipleship.

When you arrive at your shift, you will learn your responsibilities from the leaders who have organized the activity. However, we have also provided basic instructions here, as well.

  • Volunteers may sign up for one or more 2.5-hour shifts. Expect a mix of sitting and standing while greeting and assisting youth.

    • Thursday: 1:00–4:00pm, 4:00–6:30pm

    • Friday & Saturday: 10:30am–1:00pm, 1:00–3:30pm, 3:30–6:00pm

Please note, as of 11/1/25 our registration form reflects which shifts are still available. Several shifts have already been filled due to the wonderful response from our volunteers.

  • Paid parking is available downtown. (See map)

  • All volunteers may pick up their credentials at the start of their first shift using the doors at the corner of Maryland and Capitol Streets.

Plan to arrive 15–30 minutes early to allow time for lines or corrections. Please remember to bring a photo ID.

  • Concession stands are available inside the Convention Center, with food trucks and restaurants nearby.

Please note: only light snacks may be carried into the Indianapolis Convention Center. (i.e. you can bring a single sandwich discreetly wrapped in your backpack - but not a whole pizza!)

  • Dress comfortably in layers and good walking shoes. You’ll receive a free volunteer t-shirt upon arrival, which you may wear during your shift.

Volunteers must where their credentials at all times while participating at NCYC.

  • Bring a refillable water bottle, light snacks, chapstick, and any personal items you may need (such as medications or glasses). Please use a small backpack—coolers are not permitted.

    Please note:
If you plan to attend a main stage session at Lucas Oil Stadium, all belongings must be carried in a clear bag, similar to security requirements at concerts or sporting events. Food and drink are not permitted inside Lucas Oil Stadium.

Clear bags are not required for entry into the Indianapolis Convention Center, where the Service Area is located.
